Awesome safety record

Well it depends on your taste of food

Established in 1948, this airline became Myanmar’s national carrier. The airline, which is completely owned by the government of Myanmar, serves scheduled routes to all leading domestic destinations from its hub at the Yangon International Airport.

The airline was founded by the government prior to its independence in 1946 as Union of Burma Airways. It initially operated domestic flights. International flights were initiated in 1950. The name was changed to Burma Airways in December 1972, and to its current name in April 1989, following the change of the country’s name from Burma to Myanmar. In 1993 international flights were transferred to Myanmar Airways International.

The airline took off internationally in August 1993. Inittially created as a merger of companies between the airline and the Singapore company: High sonic Enterprises, with help from Royal Brunei Airlines. And it was with a management team in Singapore (mostly ex-employees of Singapore Airlines), that the ai rline with new aircraft and crew begun to function. But, the union of thecompanies was completed and the airline became property of Myanmar. In January 2001, it created a new merger of companies in the Region, the airline took control of the 49% of the shares, a local businessman through his company Zan Co. Acquired an 11% of the shares and the  40% left over remained in the hands of the airline.

In 2003, it introduced a code-share agreement with Thai Airways International in the route Bangkok-Rang-Bangkok. The airline also has code-share flights with Jetstar Asia Airways, Qatar Airways and Malaysia Airlines. In 2004, the airline received the new uniforms for its ground personnel.

More flights are being planned to new destinations within Asia. Their flights to and from Singapore are flown in conjunction with new Airbus A320 aircraft and these flights are specially operated on a full in flight service with complementary drinks, hot served meals and other amenities.

From the moment you enter their aircraft, until long after you leave, you will be greeted  by genuine smiles, friendliness and the integrity of their cabin crew, ground crew and assisting staff. Although these are some small examples of an original cultural heritage that still provides the guiding principles for the Myanmar people. This airline became Myanmar’s international airline with routine flights between the commercial capital and Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, Bangkok, Hong Kong, Dacca, Jakarta, and Kunming. The airline continued to improve regionally.

The airline’s future continued to appeal to investors and in 2007, a new joint venture was formed in which the airline kept 51% and Region Air Ltd. took 49% of the shares.

The aircrafts used by this airline are currently operated by an accomplished and proficient team of aviation crew.

Very satisfied with the whole experience flying Myanmar Airways International; clean, newish plane with Bulgarian Flight Crew. The food was indeed pleasant. There were no events and both flights left on. Real service on – decent meal and drinks. No in-flight entertainment, but the magazine offered, Mingalabar, was quite interesting. Transit was fine, straight while passing the international departure hall that offers a range of shops and a good internet access. At the end my experience was good and the crew was helpful so I recommend it because it’s a good value for your money and the service was overall fine.
