The Rise of Superhuman
Kotler will show you how to become an expert in your chosen field and dominate your sport. Ultimate Human Perfomance is just possible with "flow" and he will teach you how to reach that state.
Kotler has a informative blog with great information and some "flow" profiles.
None. Even if you don't plan on doing extreme sports, you can still benefit from it in your job.
The Rise of Superhuman by Steven Kotler is all about Ultimate Human Performance. Kotler outlines in his work the fundamentals of the “flow” state and how everyone can get into this state.
He starts clever by using many amazing and breath-taking stories about the impossible. For example Danny Way an American skateboarder who flew above the Great Wall in China with a shattered ankle and in hellish pain. In contrast to those “superhumans”, Kotler explains how everyone else can also get into this deep state of mind in which the magic happens. About every empployee can benefit using simple steps outlined by Kotler. He does this in a systematic and straight-forward way. I really liked that. The structure of the book, first some stories, then the “flow” chapter with practical advise and implication, and in the end some thoughts about the future flow research, makes a lot of sense to me.
Although “flow” research is not new ( it goes back Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi), Kotler integrates new cutting-edge research into his book and presents it in a practical and informative way. I learned a lot how to be a better leaner and athlet. I cannot recommend it highly enough, although I think other ressources about “flow” might complement this book nicely.
To conclude, it is a well-written and informative book about the newest flow research and gives great implications how to reach your “inner superhero”. Moreover the stories alone are worth it, I still cannot believe how some of those people mentioned in this book are still alive. Their stories and successes are incredible and unbelievable.
