Forks Over Knives

by Giuseppe TovarNovember 15, 2013

Isa Chandra Moskowitz author of Forks Over Knives grew up in Brooklyn, New York, and having abandoned her studies in The High School of Music & Art, she found herself drawn toward the punk rock scene of the Lower East Side of Manhattan in the late 80s, wrapping herself first in a vegetarian diet, then veganism. The experimentation and transformation required for her new diet led to expanding her skills as a cook and as a creator of her own recipes.

While watching the Food Network the motivation to create her own cooking show came because she wondered to herself why there were no vegan shows. The show was popular for its laid-back approach and spontaneous dialogue. The show invited some bands that not only played but even ended up helping out with the cooking.

Due to the success of The Post Punk Kitchen the compilation of a cookbook came in order, Vegan with a Vengeance, in late 2005. The recipes, rather than relying on expensive and heavily processed meat substitutes, use easily available and economical ingredients.

In 2006, Moskowitz and her former co-host, Romero, created a cookbook that consisted entirely of vegan cupcake recipes, Vegan Cupcakes Take Over the World, is the name of the book which was named Cookbook Of The Year by VegNews magazine. 2007 saw the presentation of another cookbook named Veganomicon, which is known to be the ultimate vegan cookbook. Some other books written by her afterwards are Vegan Brunch in 2009, also in 2009 Vegan Cookies Invade Your Cookie Jar, Appetite for Reduction in 2010, and Vegan Pie in the Sky in 2011.

Enough about the author now let’s talk about the book, Forks Over Knives by Isa Chandra Moskowitz, a whole-foods, plant-based diet has never been easier or tastier 300 brand-new recipes for cooking every day!

We all know making healthy choices for children and teaching children to make healthy choices for themselves, and even ourselves is not easy at all. But in today’s busy world, it is even more difficult. So this book offers us the tools, support and information we need to make healthier choices while instilling healthy eating habits in children and ourselves that will last a lifetime.

The secret is out: If you want to lose weight, lower your cholesterol, prevent, or even reverse chronic conditions such as heart disease and type 2 diabetes, the best medicine for you is to eat the right food. Thousands of people have reduced their daily intake of meat, dairy, and oils and seen marvelous results. If you are among them or you would like to be you need this cookbook.

Del Sroufe, the man behind some of the mouthwatering meals in the film, proves that the “Forks Over Knives” philosophy is not about what you “can’t” eat, but what you “can.” Chef Del and his collaborators Judy Micklewright, Julieanna Hever, Darshana and Isa Chandra Moskowitz, Thacker transform legumes, grains, vegetables, and healthful fruits into 300 classic and unexpected recipes, universally and seasonally motivated, and for every day’s meal, all through the year.

What a great cookbook! Pure elegance. Moskowitz’s recipes show just how sophisticated plant-based cooking can turn out to be. If you think gourmet cooking can’t be healthful, be exquisitely contradicted with this book. I love all of her cookbooks but this volume has the healthiest recipes yet. And she’s so boldly smart. I love it! Simple, economical, and appetizing, the recipes in Forks Over Knives by Isa Chandra Moskowitz. This cookbook places the power of real wholesome food in your hands. Start cooking the plant-based, whole-food way today, it could save your life!
